The Diary of a Young Girl
2:11 PM
On her 13th birthday, Anne Franks starts a diary about her life. She includes stories of her friendships and her crushes. Her autobiography is so famous because it was written during the time after Germans invaded the Netherlands. She writes about her memories of her time of hiding from the Germans who discriminated against the Jewish. As her diary progresses, you are able to notice how her thoughts about her identity also progresses. Her autobiography reveals the horrors of the Holocaust from a normal, young girl's perspective.
Opinion/Critique
I think Anne Frank's autobiography is so powerful and so important because it's a primary source that reveals how horrible the Holocaust was. It's so impactful because her diary begins with her feelings about friendships, school, and crushes which can be so relatable to other teenagers at her age.
Classroom application
I like this book because it can be used to introduce both historical nonfiction and autobiography. I think this book is necessary to read when learning about the Holocaust because it gives students a better sense of what life was like for the Jews. Frank, A. (1977). The diary of a young girl.
